Tony G GuogaYou know him as “Tony G”, but the man by the name of Antanas Guoga was born in Lithuania in December of 1973. Tony G Guoga has grown his legend and is now one of the top poker players on the planet. His skill and his personality make him a perfect fit in the new age of television poker.

As a young man, Tony G used his intellectual ability not to play poker, but rather to break down the ever complicated Rubik’s Cube in his native Lithuania. There, he was the champion of that exercise. Later, his family relocated to Melbourne, Australia, where he grew up and learned about gambling. He started playing competitive poker at the age of 18 and has since grown into one of the most infamous players in the game. He is known for not only outstanding poker, but also for being one of the best talkers in the game. Though his table persona might suggest otherwise, Tony G is actually one of the nicest and most personable players that you could meet away from the table.

Tony G made waves in the poker world in 2003, where he finished fifth in a very strong field at Paris. That wasn’t the story, though. After Howard Lederer was eliminated, he refused to shake Tony G’s hand because Guoga was being rude and arrogant at the table. That story, and others like it, helped to grow the legend of Tony G.

Tony G hasn’t been quite as prolific as other players when it comes to taking down titles. He has finished in the money only twice at the World Series of Poker, both of which came in 2004. His biggest payday came in the World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris in 2004 when he finished second. That earned him more than $400,000 and helped set up the rest of his career. He used the momentum of that event to finish the in the money at a bunch of other World Poker Tour events over the next couple of years.

In 2005, Tony G claimed the $5,000 Main Event at the European Poker Championship. That won him a modest $456,822. He also finished at the final table in the World Speed Poker Open during that same year.

Tony G hasn’t been quite as successful at the tables as some of his fellow pro poker players, but he has more than made up for that with his other ventures. His live tournament career earnings of $2,300,000 are nice, but they are nothing in comparison to what he makes with his network of poker sites. He founded and continues to operate three sites, among them Pokernews.com. They generate high levels of traffic each month and bring in a large amount of revenue for Tony G Guoga.
