A member of the Full Tilt Poker pro team, Jennifer Harman is the only woman to day who is in possession of two WSOP open event bracelets. She won the first one in 2000 in the NL Lowball event, and the second one in 2002 in the Limit Holdem event. The interesting thing about it is, that she had never played lowball before her 2000 victory, she’d only had a quick run-through with Howard Lederer before she set down to the table.
She is a fixed limit specialist, as a matter of fact, she wrote the fixed limit holdem section of Super System 2, one of the most respected poker publications in the world, which is co-authored by names like Doyle Brunson, Mike Caro and David Sklansky.
She disposed of some pretty tough opposition in her two WSOP bracelet victories. The likes of Humberto Brennes, Mimi Tran, and Alex Cunningham were unable to stop her.
Despite those successes she has always been and is still considered a cash game specialist.
Jennifer Harman was born in Reno, Nevada, in a place where being exposed to poker and gambling from a very early age was something quite commonplace. She began playing poker at 8, and even though she proved she was rather exceptional at it, her decision to turn pro angered her father who promptly discontinued any contact with her, for a good few years to follow. Nowadays they have their problems worked out though, so things have pretty much returned to normal in that respect.
Jennifer graduated from the University of Nevada. Her poker earnings total more than 1.8 million dollars as of 2007, but if you think she’s had an easy life with everything offered up to her on a silver platter, think again. The recurring problems with her kidneys kept her away from the poker table through 2004, during which time she’s had her second kidney transplant. The problem apparently runs in the family as her sister has it too, and their mother died from complications related to that same problem when Jennifer was 17.
Nowadays she’s hard at work at trying to raise awareness regarding organ donation through her own non profit organization called CODA.
Jennifer Harman is the only regular woman in the Bellagio high-stakes cash games, and she competed against Andy Beal as well, as a member of “the Corporation”.
Lately she’s also become a regular presence on TV, having taken part in Poker After Dark, and High Stakes Poker, presented by NBC and GSN respectively.
Her poker performances include 19 WSOP money finishes, (including the two which resulted in the bracelets mentioned above), as well as a WPT final table and 10 WPT money finishes.
Jennifer is currently married to poker professional Marco Traniello, together with whom she has twin boys.
